Labor's continued refusal to return Questions on Notice from Senate Estimates on time reveals a Government trying to dodge accountability.
31% of Questions on Notice remained unanswered at COB Friday 13 May 2011. All questions were due to be answered by 21 April 2011. All bar one committee have questions outstanding.
"Despite all Labor's talk of a new era of open and transparent government this evasion of the Senate shows the exact opposite," Senator Abetz said today.
"The Coalition is committed to keeping the Government honest through Senate Estimates, but the Government is trying very hard to hide the facts."
"Even worse, the Government still has questions outstanding from October Estimates."
"Labor is displaying an arrogant contempt to open and transparent government."
"Labor must ensure that all outstanding questions are answered ahead of Senate Estimates next week."
"The silence of the Greens on this is worrisome given their alliance with Labor and the fact Labor and the Greens will control the Senate," Senator Abetz concluded.
