Subject : EMPLOYERS AND EMPLOYEES IN THE DARK OVER AWARD CHANGES
Author : The Hon Eric Abetz
Variations to Awards following Fair Work Australia's decision to raise the minimum wage are yet to take place just weeks out from the date of their effect. "We are just a couple weeks away from July 1 yet employers and employees are in the dark about what they will be paid from July 1," Shadow Minister for Employment and Workplace Relations Eric Abetz said today. "I have been contacted by a number of people who still do not know what they have to do and it doesn't help that the Fair Work Ombudsman's website doesn't offer any advice that the awards are about to change." "The public consultation period ends at close of business today on the draft determinations so, best case scenario, employers have just one week to transition into the new awards ahead of July 1. "There is room for improvement to take in consideration the needs of small business and employees that are wandering around in the dark," Senator Abetz concluded.
