Labor MHR, Geoff Lyons, has questioned what he calls an "improper process" imposed on the CEO of the LGH, Mr Kirwan, by the Health Department* While Mr Lyons is a late arrival in publicly supporting Mr Kirwan, he has been ominously silent on the devastating health cuts imposed by his State Labor counterparts. Now Mr Lyons has woken up from his slumber on health, he should start tackling Michelle O'Byrne on what she has in mind for Mr Kirwan's future. For instance, how is it that a southern CEO was recently appointed for five years without the agreement of the Governing Councils when Mr Kirwan reportedly has to reapply for his own job? Mr Lyons has stated today he looks forward to Mr Kirwan's ongoing service to the people of Tasmania, but how can he be so sure of that? The Minister for Health put in place a process to allow Governing Councils to select their own CEOs but then breached her own process by appointing Ms Holden to the job before the Governing Councils were established. The Minister must explain why, and how she will ensure equity of process for all hospital CEOs.
