Sue is a fifth generation Tasmanian, who prior to entering State Parliament in 1992, worked as a popular and successful teacher and University lecturer, with an active profile in sport, education, community and youth affairs.
Originally from the north west coast, where she grew up on the family farm attending the local state schools, Sue has lived in the Bass electorate since the 1970s and has two sons James and Alex.
Sue has a Master of Arts from Leeds University, a Bachelor of Arts (Honours) from the University of Tasmania, a Diploma of Physical Education and a Tasmanian Teachers Certificate. Sue is a fellow of the Australian Council for Health, Physical Education and Recreation.
After entering politics in 1992, Sue has achieved a number of firsts for women in Parliament - the first female leader of the Parliamentary Liberal Party and Leader of the Opposition, the first female Deputy Premier, and the first female Liberal State Minister. Relaxation time includes spending time with family and the community, a game of golf, fishing , walking the dog Roxy, gardening and enjoying Tasmanian food and wine.
