Labor fails to provide Community Sector certainty

Labor has left community sector organisations short changed and without certainty in a massive policy failure.

A re-elected majority Liberal Government has announced it will increase the indexation applied to the funding for this sector to 12.5 per cent over four years, on par with our other essential front line workers.

After initially promising nothing, Labor has now only committed to one year’s funding, pledging only ‘to work with the sector to develop a framework for fairer funding’.

Community service organisations deserve better than a wishy-washy non commitment.

You can’t bank that.

Only a re-elected majority Liberal Government will provide the massive funding boost and the certainty the community sector needs to undertake its vital work in our state.

In addition, under our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future, we will support the Community Services sector far beyond indexation with a range of investments including more interest free loans, continued food relief, a strategic push to building food resilience, a volunteering strategy and increased core funding for neighbourhood houses.
