The launch today of The Gardens: Celebrating Tasmania’s Botanical Treasure 1818- 2018 is the first major milestone of the Gardens’ Bicentenary in 2018.
The book is a deeply personal account of the people, plans and passion connected to the Gardens over the last 200 years.
Tasmanians responded enthusiastically to the call to submit their images and memories to this book, making it a personal reflection worthy of this milestone.
While the Gardens are the site of many fond family occasions and community events, they also form a key part of botanical conservation in Tasmania and are an important part of our visitor economy.
Its status as a flagship tourism destination continues today with more than 460,000 people visiting the Gardens in the year to June 2017.
As well as being a major tourist attraction the Gardens continue to be a vital element in the lives of Tasmanians and the bicentenary provides us with an opportunity to celebrate that.
All profits from the sale of the book will be reinvested directly into the Gardens.
