Wellesley Park oval upgrades complete
- 10 Oct, 2017
Elise Archer, Liberal Member for Denison
I was honoured to be part of today’s official opening of Wellesley Park oval in South Hobart having worked as a local Member on funding for the new pavilion housing the South Hobart Football Club (SHFC) clubrooms.
The Hodgman Liberal Government is committed to developing and supporting well planned sport and recreation infrastructure that provides Tasmanians with opportunities to play sport and be physically active.
As part of this commitment, the Government provided $50,000 funding towards the fit-out of the new pavilion at Wellesley Park in 2014, with the land being owned by the City of Hobart.
The new pavilion, along with the upgraded sportsground, new lighting, landscaping and playground has lifted the profile of the area significantly and is an important focal point for the whole South Hobart community, providing a great venue for SHFC matches and for kids’ soccer clinics.
Access for wheelchairs, the elderly and people living with a disability have been incorporated into the design of the new facilities, providing a welcoming and inclusive environment.
It is anticipated that over 10,000 participants will directly benefit from the facilities each year.
The Tasmanian Government’s objective is for Tasmania to be the healthiest state by 2025, and investing in sport and recreation infrastructure will help this be achieved.
