Incident at Risdon Prison
- 09 Aug, 2017
Ian Thomas, Director Designate, Tasmania Prison Service
The situation at Risdon Prison Complex, where a number of inmates in the medium security unit were refusing to return to their cells, was resolved a short time ago.
There were no injuries to staff and one prisoner suffered minor cuts to their arm.
Approximately 40 inmates were involved in the incident, which commenced at around 12.30 this afternoon.
Early indications suggest that prisoners were concerned with the phasing out of nicotine replacement patches.
