Labor abandons New Norfolk community
- 31 Jan, 2018
Rene Hidding, Minister for Police, Fire and Emergency Management
Labor have abandoned New Norfolk by refusing to match our promise to build a brand new police station, if re-elected.
The current station was built in 1958 and clearly does not have the space or required facilities to transition to a station with a police presence to adequately meet the community’s needs.
However, in today’s Mercury* Labor have confirmed they will not build a new station- instead, they have only promised an inadequate ‘refurbishment’ of the current station. This confirms there will be no permanent increase in police numbers in the area under Labor, as our advice is that the current station- even if refurbished- cannot accommodate them.
By contrast, we will not let the community down- If re-elected, we will build a brand new police station that has the capacity, space and security requirements to respond to the community’s needs around-the-clock, seven days a week.
The evidence is clear- only a re-elected Hodgman majority Liberal Government can be trusted to deliver improved safety for the New Norfolk community
