Elise Archer, Minister for Justice and Liberal Member for Denison
A re-elected Hodgman majority Liberal Government is committed to building Tasmania’s infrastructure for the 21st century.
The Royal Hobart Showgrounds is an important multi-purpose community facility in the heart of the northern suburbs.
Considerable work has already taken place to put the Royal Agricultural Society of Tasmania onto a sustainable footing, including the Bunnings development.
Today I am pleased to announce that a re-elected Liberal Government will provide funding to enable stage 2 of the RAST redevelopment, worth $20 million, to go ahead.
A new retail development, employing between 80 and 90 people once operational, will be a welcome addition to the northern suburbs.
The new retail space, expected to be home to three major tenants, will be built next door to Bunnings on Howard Road.
A re-elected Hodgman majority Liberal Government will provide $1.5 million to build a new event space between the main arena and Brooker Highway.
This space will provide a new home for a variety of clubs, kennels, and stables that are currently on the site next door to Bunnings.
The new building will house:
• A new, flexible multi-purpose event space to be used by a variety of clubs, including dogs, cats, horses and arena;
• A new indoor skate park, including foam pits and ramps; and
• An affordable event and exhibition space.
I am very pleased to have been able to support this project which will help put the Society onto a sustainable footing into the future, and I congratulate them for this initiative.
