Making it easier to report litter

The Hodgman majority Liberal Government is making it easier for Tasmanians to report rubbish dumping to help keep our Island clean.
The new Report Rubbish tool at rubbish.epa.tas.gov.au can be used to record the location, type and amount of litter or dumped rubbish.
Users can take a picture, and upload details of what has been located and where to ensure the appropriate authority is informed for clean-up.
In the coming weeks, local and state government land managers will be able to request offenders on Community Corrections Orders undertake clean-ups of parks, beaches and other public land.
The Report Rubbish tool is part of our commitment to crack down on litter and follows the passage of the Litter Amendment Bill 2018, which significantly increases penalties for illegal dumping.
We are also committed to implementing a Container Refund Scheme by 2022 as drink containers currently account for around 41 per cent of litter by volume in Tasmania, and evidence from other states shows that introducing a CRS results in a significant decrease in litter.
The Hodgman majority Liberal Government is committed to protecting the Tasmanian way of life and the community rightly expects contemporary measures to deter littering and dumping.
