Senator for Tasmania
Claire Chandler is a passionate Tasmanian who wants to see the best opportunities for her state to secure our future. At 28 years of age, she hopes to reach out to the next generation of voters.
Claire has lived and worked in Tasmania all her life. She grew up in the Huon Valley, starting school at Huonville Primary before attending St Michael’s Collegiate School in Hobart. She then studied at the University of Tasmania, graduating in 2013 with a combined Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Laws, majoring in political science. Following her studies, she commenced her career at Deloitte Australia, where she worked as a Manager in the firm’s Hobart practice, specialising in risk advisory.
As a proud Tasmanian, Claire wants our state to continue to grow economically so that our community can reap the benefits - be that through higher employment, lower cost of living, or more opportunities for young people to remain in our state rather than move to the mainland. Claire believes the key drivers to achieve this are ensuring Tasmanians have the best possible access to education and training, maintaining infrastructure investment so our regional areas are not left behind, and looking for ways to make it easier for local businesses to get ahead.
Claire is passionate about serving her community, and recently ran as a Liberal candidate in the 2018 State Election for the seat of Franklin. She has also served the Liberal Party in numerous senior roles, and led the Party’s review into female engagement in 2017. She is a former Federal President and State President of the Young Liberal Movement.
Claire currently lives in Blackmans Bay with her husband, Chris Edwards.
