Mrs Joan Rylah MP
Liberal Member for Braddon
Joan Rylah was first elected to the Tasmanian House of Assembly in March 2014 to represent the large north western seat of Braddon and became the Chair of Committees and Government Whip. Returning to Parliament on a recount in 2019, Joan’s current roles are Parliamentary Secretary for Regional Affairs and Government Whip.
Joan has extensive professional experience and credentials having worked in senior roles in the banking and financial sectors as well as owning and operating national financial advisory firms.
Joan is recognised for her energy, financial acumen and commitment to helping others. She believes that access to quality education is the fundamental foundation for achieving success.
With a strong financial and governance history Joan has held numerous directorships of public and private companies and on government boards in the state, so has a diverse network throughout Tasmania fostering friendships and teamwork on a vast range of interests.
Joan is always well researched and prepared, and has the capacity to advice to make difficult decisions when needed.
Joan’s decision to represent her community was driven by a strong desire to use her skills and experience to deliver a positive future for all Tasmanians and in particular, reverse the economic decline occurring in Braddon prior to 2014.
Joan is a member of the Rotary Club of Somerset and when she has free time her favourite activities including relaxing with the family and friends, riding and spending time with her warmblood mare, Zara, working on the farm, walking and camping.
