Delivering for the Dover and far South community

The Tasmanian Liberal Government has been the biggest supporter of regional communities across Tasmania.

I am pleased to announce that if re-elected, a majority Gutwein Liberal Government will invest more than $6 million into infrastructure upgrades for the Dover and far South community.

This includes $3 million for the Thermal Pool at Hastings to significantly renovate and upgrade the popular Pool, one of the State’s iconic natural assets, and upgrade the Pool’s surrounds to ensure it is fully accessible for people with disability or mobility impaired.

The project will be delivered within two years and will help cement this iconic site as a regional tourism drawcard for the far South.

We will also provide $3 million for Stage Two of the Cockle Creek camping grounds and road upgrade. This investment will deliver a road realignment and new camping areas for RV’s, motor homes and camper trailers. Cockle Creek is the southern Gateway to the Tasmanian Wilderness World Heritage Area, and our Government has already provided $800,000 to complete Stage One of the upgrades.

If re-elected, we will also invest $430,000 towards the construction of a new Port Esperance Sailing Club, after the iconic building was destroyed by fire in April 2020. This investment will assist the Club to build a new clubhouse with modern change rooms, showers and toilets, better boat storage, a commercial kitchen and a covered deck to capture the views across the bay. Importantly, this new facility will benefit the whole community.

Our Government is committed to improving health outcomes for Tasmanian communities, and as part of our Southern Health Policy, we will deliver $1 million to upgrade the Dover Medical Centre to expand and improve access to primary health and GP services.

This investment will allow the Huon Valley Council to expand the health services offered through the Centre, including GP services and allied health, such as podiatry, physiotherapy, occupational therapy, speech pathology, social work and psychology services. The upgraded infrastructure will also support increased teaching and training opportunities, helping to attract GPs and other health professionals to the community.

Only a re-elected majority Gutwein Liberal Government has the strong plan to Secure Tasmania’s Future.
