Securing the future of our agricultural shows

A re-elected majority Gutwein Liberal Government will secure the future of our agricultural shows so they can continue to bring together regional communities for many more decades to come.

In 2018, we introduced a $1 million Agricultural Grants Fund which has helped over 30 rural and regional show societies across Tasmania.

Today we’re announcing that if re-elected, we’ll invest $500,000 to extend this Fund for agricultural shows for a further two years, helping them to get back on their feet after the impacts of COVID-19.

This extends our support for these important community events until 2024 to assist show societies with;

  • Improving the use of technology to support participation and new activities;
  • Improved business management, planning for shows and marketing;
  • Permanent infrastructure upgrades to improve public safety, such as entrances and fencing.

Our agricultural shows not only bring Tasmanians together - they showcase our top-quality produce and livestock and encourage investment in our regions. Many were hit hard by COVID-19, and now we're supporting them to come back bigger and better.

This year, the Royal Agricultural Society of Tasmania is celebrating 200 years of showing which is an incredible achievement.

As part of our support for agricultural shows, we’ve also provided $1.5 million for the Royal Agricultural Society of Tasmania.

A majority Gutwein Liberal Government has also committed to revitalising the Glenorchy Showgrounds to turn it into a vibrant area that makes the best use of this valuable space.

It will help secure 450 new homes, activate 400 direct and indirect jobs and deliver a fantastic exhibitor, visitor and local community facility, to ensure the show goes on for another 200 years.
