Unions kill Labor’s power policy

This morning we understand Labor committed to kill its landmark power policy after just one day in the face of an angry union revolt.

Unions were incensed over Labor’s announcement to rip Entura out of Hydro and roll it into their newly created power company.

The move would have impacted more than 200 Entura workers.

It is believed after crisis talks this morning, Labor told the unions they would drop the policy to move Entura and promised to consult unions on any further policy announcements.

Labor leader Rebecca White and her hapless energy spokesman couldn’t even bring themselves to even speak the words ‘Tasmania Power Company’ today.

Their brilliant idea of gutting Hydro and setting up a new government-owned business is dead after just 24 hours.

It might have been okay for Dan Andrews, but it won’t work here.

Only a re-elected majority Liberal Government will save Hydro, and help it build this state’s next generation renewable energy future.
