Backing in the Southern Beaches Swim Centre

The Rockliff Liberal Government is investing in community infrastructure as part of our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania's future to keep our regions strong.

A re-elected Rockliff Liberal majority government will provide an additional $1.5 million to enable the completion of the Southern Beaches Swim Centre.

Prosser MLC and Lyons candidate Jane Howlett said the Tasmanian Liberal Government had already allocated grants and loans funding from the post-COVID stimulus Building Projects Support Program and Business Growth Loan Scheme towards the project.

"I support Luke Doerner’s vision for a state-of-the-art aquatic centre that will provide the municipality of Sorell and its surrounding communities with a highly valuable and much-needed piece of infrastructure for this growing region," said Ms Howlett.

"I love the design, which features a six-lane pool and grandstand housed in an insulated translucent polycarbonate shell that will keep the hall warm while allowing for light throughout the day. At night the centre will glow. The design will draw on local timbers and stone to create a community facility that blends seamlessly into the landscape.

"I congratulate Mr Doerner and the Mayor of Sorell, Kerry Vincent, for their strong advocacy on the Southern Beaches Swim Centre.

"This project ticks all the boxes in terms of high-quality, safe, inclusive and fit-for-purpose community sport and recreation infrastructure that will service almost 20,000 Southern Beaches residents."
