A re-elected Rockliff majority Liberal Government will develop two new state-of-the-art Emergency Services Hubs on the North-West and West Coast of Tasmania as part of its 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s future.

Minister for Police, Fire and Emergency Management, Felix Ellis, said the Hubs in Wynyard and Rosebery will be purpose built to co-locate Fire-fighters, State Emergency Service personnel and Police officers.

“The opening of the first ever Emergency Services Hub in Sorell last year was an outstanding success which has seen an increased availability for emergency call outs and also a spike in volunteerism and community engagement,” Minister Ellis said.

“We look forward to having these benefits realised here in Braddon.

“As a result of the Tasmanian Liberal Government’s investment in police and emergency services over 10 years, we have a record number of emergency service personnel in Tasmania, more new stations, emergency hubs and police houses than ever before, and we have a strong forward plan of capital investment through to 2030.

Liberal Member for Braddon, Roger Jaensch, said the Hubs will replace older facilities in these areas and the $13 million investment will support jobs, growth and certainty on the West Coast and North-West Tasmania.

“We know regions like the North-West and the West Coast are some of the best places to live, work and raise a family, but they also need to be supported with contemporary emergency services infrastructure,” Mr Jaensch said.

West Coast Mayor Shane Pitt welcomed the funding and said: “Our police and emergency services here in Rosebery work very hard to keep the local community safe and this investment is great news for our community. Rosebery is surrounded by industries such as mining as well as growing tourism ventures like the mountain bike trails. Investments like this by the Liberals help to take the West Coast from strength-to-strength.”

Deputy Mayor of the Waratah-Wynyard Council, Cr Celisa Edwards, said the funding announcement will bring enormous benefits and increase community resilience.

“Existing emergency services facilities in our community are in varying condition and operational suitability and co-location of services will support and foster collaboration between agencies,” Cr Edwards said.

“This investment will increase the capacity to respond to critical incidents, will increase community resilience, and will support the invaluable work emergency services staff and volunteers provide our community.”

Only a majority Rockliff Liberal Government has a 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future which includes these important infrastructure investments to support regional communities.
