Labor's 'game changer' nothing more than a dud renovator's delight

Ms White’s so-called 'game changer' announced today already exists – it is called 'MyHome'.

All Ms White has done is take our existing policy, put a lick of paint on it, and shamelessly tried to pretend it’s something brand new.

Under MyHome, which was introduced by the Liberals in 2022, Tasmanian first home buyers can buy a home with a 2 per cent deposit. To date, it has been accessed by 190 households.

Today, Ms White has said she’ll tweak our existing MyHome policy from a two per cent deposit, to a zero per cent deposit.

The practical difference between a two per cent deposit, and a zero per cent deposit on homes up to $600,000, is up to $12,000.

This is less than half of the saving that First Home Buyers will get from our Stamping Out Stamp Duty policy.

The fact of the matter is, under our proposed Stamping Out Stamp Duty policy, First Home Buyers will pay zero stamp duty – that’s a saving of up to $28,935.

Under Labor, first home buyers will save only half of that – just up to $12,000.

On top of that, as usual Ms White’s policy has no details, is uncosted, and unfunded.

Far from being a 'game changer', Ms White’s policy is a renovator’s delight.
