Tasmania Shines on national stage

Tasmania’s best tourism operators have had a golden night at the Australian Tourism Awards taking home 7 of the top gongs, 3 silvers and a bronze.

Premier and Minister for Tourism and Hospitality, Jeremy Rockliff, said the national awards prove, once again, that Tasmania can deservedly mix it with the rest of the nation.

“Congratulations to our 23 finalists, you really are the best of the best and showed the rest of the nation just how good Tasmania is,” Premier Rockliff said.

“I felt incredibly proud when the wukalina walk was awarded gold in the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Tourism Experience category. It’s a project that the Rockliff Liberal Government has backed from the start.

“It’s also fantastic to see new operators take home recognition, so for On Board expedition cruises to secure gold in the New Tourism Business category is a true testament to our tourism industry.

“Tasmania’s tourism industry would not be as strong as it is without the dedication of all of the people working in it, it’s a credit to all of you and helps ensure Tasmania’s success as a must-visit travel destination.”

Premier Jeremy Rockliff said tourism was a key part of his 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future.

“Tourism has been one of Tasmania’s single greatest transformative sectors of the past decade, and our Government has backed it every step of the way,” Premier Rockliff said.

“Tourism has rewritten attitudes about how Australia and the world sees Tasmania, and importantly it has shaped how we define ourselves.”
