A Strong Plan for Burnie’s future

A re-elected majority Liberal Government will create the beating heart of Burnie, as part of our 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s Future.

Premier Jeremy Rockliff said the $17.3 million investment will support the Burnie City Council to complete the first stages of its masterplan, including improvements to the Arts and Cultural Precinct, upgrading the streetscape around the retail centre and create better connections to the waterfront.

“The Masterplan will strengthen Burnie by reinvigorating the city, connecting the community and fostering a strong sense of identity. Giving the CBD a much-needed facelift will stimulate business and build on Burnie’s unique location by the sea.”

“Burnie has proven itself over many decades to be a resilient community and is an important regional city. We want it to be a thriving and contemporary place in the North West,” Premier Rockliff said.

“We have seen what can be achieved when we invest in projects like Living City in Devonport, and now, a re-elected majority Liberal Government will support Burnie to reach its potential.”

Liberal candidate for Braddon, Giovanna Simpson, said this project will unlock development opportunities, improve access for locals and tourists, and inject new life into the city.

“We will unlock Burnie’s full potential by supporting the delivery of this important project,” Ms Simpson said.

“Burnie is the retail hub of the western end of the coast, offering neighbouring communities many services, and is the gateway to the West Coast.”

Premier Rockliff said he looks forward to working closely with the Council as this project progresses.

Only a re-elected majority Liberal Government has a 2030 Strong Plan for Tasmania’s future, which will deliver the infrastructure and services regional cities like Burnie need.
