Senator Jonathon Duniam
Liberal Senator for Tasmania, Assistant Minister for Forestry and Fisheries, Assistant Minister for Regional Tourism
Jonathon is a proud sixth generation Tasmanian with strong family roots in the North West of Tasmania.
Married with three sons, he lives in the state’s south, just outside of Hobart and enjoys getting out into our local communities to see the fantastic work of the many unsung heroes who often go unnoticed.
As a father and a passionate Tasmanian, he is excited about future opportunities and potential of our state.
Tasmania has so much to offer, which is now being discovered nationally and internationally, and he wants to see our young people stay in the state and build their careers and families here, rather than move interstate after graduating from school, TAFE or university.
Jonathon has worked in the public service all his career and has been close to the policy making process, formerly working for Premier Will Hodgman, as his Deputy Chief of Staff, at the time of the historic 2014 state election win.
By getting out and about in the community he has a strong insight into what is important to Tasmanians.
His job is all about listening and fixing problems, in securing results for our state in Canberra.
That is what his focus will always be and he will be judged on his deeds, not just his words.
In addition to his public service he also has small business experience, having worked to establish a large child care centre in Hobart with his wife and family, which has now grown to employ over 30 Tasmanians.
