Bringing back Libraries
- 17 Feb, 2018
Jeremy Rockliff, Minister for Education and Training
The Hodgman Liberal Government believes that libraries should be called libraries.
It is a fact that many Tasmanians don’t understand why our libraries are called LINC - they don’t know what LINC means.
That is why a re-elected majority Hodgman Liberal Government will re-name LINC Tasmania, to end the confusion, to Libraries Tasmania.
We will also invest an additional $3 million dollars in new contemporary resources for Tasmanians, to update library resources in a variety of formats, from online resources, to digital resources and of course, books.
Libraries across the country provide the same or similar service to those provided in Tasmania, from literacy programs to family history searches, archives and heritage, and they are still named libraries.
It makes sense that we rename LINC to Libraries Tasmania, to provide a more equitable and accessible any visitors.
The majority Hodgman Liberal Government knows there is no better foundation for Tasmania’s future than in education, which is why we will make our libraries more accessible.
