International Women's Day 2018
- 08 Mar, 2018
Jacquie Petrusma, Minister for Women
International Women’s Day is the global celebration of the economic, political and social achievements of women.
The Hodgman Liberal Government is committed to a more equal Tasmania, and has led the way with initiatives aimed at achieving positive change for women and for our community.
We have a target of women having 50 per cent representation on Government boards and committees by July 2020.
Since the release of the Women on Boards Strategy in 2015, Government board positions held by women have increased to over 40 per cent – up from 33.8 per cent.
The Government will also soon release the Tasmanian Women’s Strategy, which will focus on four priority areas for action: economic empowerment, leadership, health and wellbeing, and safety.
The theme for International Women’s Day 2018 is #PressforProgress and I encourage all Tasmanians to join us in taking the pledge to help achieve gender parity once and for all.
We will continue working towards fixing the gender pay gap, and we will work collaboratively across Government, community, business and institutions to ensure women and girls are given the opportunities to reach their full potential in our community.
